Wake up and smell the Intranet

Many businesses are coming around to the idea of sharing documents, resources, and knowledge among their staff and associates ... and intranets are a great way of doing exactly that.

An Intranet, commonly, is really just a website that you use internally for communicating among yourselves.

Expose your Intranet to the outside world (for use by affiliates, partners, etc), and you have an "Extranet".

The trick about Intranet/Extranets is to make the information held within them available in the most intuitive and simplest way possible - to just the right people, and without needing to have an Advanced Computing Degree to update the information they contain.

Another great trick is to combine a public site with a private intranet functionality. One example of this is the Brisbane Technology Park (BTP) site known as the "BTP Hub". This public website is a great resource for information about BTP and its tenants. Certain parts of the "Hub" site, such as the Discussion Forum are for private use and can only be accessed after the user enters a valid login.

Once logged in, the user has access to all the public parts of the site, as well as the private sections which are seamlessly integrated within the rest of the navigation structure.

All content, including the moderation of the discussion forum, is managed by ciSUITE: administration users after only minutes of training.
